News Highlights: Tech investors pay attention to the education and financial sector in Africa
NAIROBI (Reuters) – African education and financial services offer the best opportunities in the post-COVID-19 period as the pandemic accelerates a shift to digital ways of living and working, two prominent investors said Tuesday.
“Digital infrastructure companies are probably the ones that investors are most excited about right now,” Jihan Abass, founder and CEO of Lami, a Kenyan digital insurance platform, told the Reuters Next conference.
Her Nairobi-based company, which sought to improve the East African nation’s sedate insurance world by enabling consumers to purchase motor insurance on their cell phones, has seen increased demand since the onset of the pandemic, she said.
Iyinoluwa Aboyeji, the general partner of the Nigeria-based Fund for Africa’s Future, an investment vehicle targeting African start-ups, said investment in education technologies will yield attractive returns as the sector recovers …
